How It All Began

A Personal Story That Built a Better Cleaning Company

Helping Hands Cleaning Services was created from real life—not a business plan.

Founder Gosia Baran moved to the Chicago area from Poland in 1999, inspired by the opportunities in the United States and ready to build a better future with her husband, Tony. Like many families, life quickly became busy, demanding, and overwhelming.

While working full-time at a downtown Chicago law firm, Gosia faced one of life’s biggest challenges—pregnancy while juggling long workdays and a full household. Keeping a clean, organized home became nearly impossible, even though it mattered deeply to her.

So, like many busy families, she decided to hire a cleaning service.

The Experience That Changed Everything

What was supposed to be a solution quickly turned into frustration.

The service lacked professionalism, structure, and basic standards. There was no system, no training, and no attention to detail—just inconsistency and disappointment. Instead of feeling relieved, Gosia felt more stressed.

That experience planted a seed:

There had to be a better way to deliver house cleaning services.

The Reality of Working Moms

After her son was born, Gosia returned to work, spending long days away from home. Even with an exhausting schedule, she still found herself spending weekends cleaning—scrubbing bathrooms, mopping floors, and catching up on everything that couldn’t get done during the week.

Like so many parents, she was faced with a difficult tradeoff:

A clean home or quality time with family.

That didn’t sit right.

The Beginning of Helping Hands

When Gosia was laid off after 9/11, she made a decision that would change everything.

She set out to build a cleaning company that she wished existed when she needed help the most—one that delivers not just a clean home, but time, peace of mind, and consistency.
